Where’s Rick Gunn?

Billy’s Senior Portrait

I’m not sure how to say this gently, but Bill was not overly enthusiastic about his senior portraits… It happens with boys, I’ve seen it many times before.

I picked up on that in about one second when I met him. We struggled a bit with each other in the first few minutes of the session, then I basically told him that we should just have fun and forget about how he “needed” to be for the photos.

The rest of the shoot after that was filled with great connection between Billy and I. We figured out a jovial tone that created a comfortable energy especially for him.

I loved his expressions, even smirks throughout the session and how much at ease he became showing off his personality.

A Flower Girl Story…

This was a fairly typical case of a two-year-old being herself, in her own world, doing her ow thing whether it’s a wedding day or not! Exactly the way she ought to be! :)

We, adults kept trying to engage with her, to get her attention, to coax her to do things… Didn’t work.

It was actually quite perfect the way she ignored everyone including me and my camera. Every time I’d think I could have her look at me, she would turn away immediately leaving me with a big smile on my face. After a few failed attempts, I decided that anything of her will do. In fact, capturing her free spirit and independence will do best!

So that’s what I did. With crumbs and milk around her lips, with a cookie in her hand, goofy looks and the whole bit.

Insanely cute!

September Weddings!

The month of September was packed with wedding events. Four of them back to back gave me so much work on the computer, I’m just now coming up for air to continue with my Blog and show some beautiful images off.

Each wedding was unique and fun, heavily sprinkled with laughter, joy and yes, a lotta love! :) All that given, it was easy for me to document the sweetest moments of such special celebrations.

Congratulations to Krista and Michael, Meredith and Jefferey, Ann and Jason, Heather and Troy, Andrea and Joey!

Some of my favorite photographs from these Fall weddings are coming soon! Please stay tuned! :)

The camera loves Sabrina!

This stunning creature of a girl is a natural talent in front of the camera!

Sabrina was born to be a model, an actress, someone who needs to be on stage to show off her extraordinary comfort to perform.

At the same time it’s not really a performance since all of Sabrina’s looks, postures, and expressions are displayed with spontaneity and versatility. No trying. No effort. She’s that good!

Add her exuberance and vivaciousness to it, and she’s nothing but a pleasure to watch, to be with and most of all to photograph!

Nina’s Soul…

It’s almost all the time that I see my subjects’ personalities and characteristics during a shoot… It’s not very often though that I get to see a soul of a person coming right towards mine…

Nina’s love of math, playing the violin, her belief in religion, and that stunning, playful smile to save the world was all in one genuine package in front of me. What impressed me the most though was this particular word she used describing herself to me: humbled.

I’ve known for quite a while what it’s like to feel humbled all the time, but a seventeen year old?… It must take a very special upbringing to evolve into someone Nina is. A beautiful, sprouting young soul.

Bailey…

What a wonderfully unique look Bailey has! I immediately became intrigued when I saw her at our meeting location!

The shiny black hair with stylish bangs gives this adorable young lady even more character. Her smile and intensely big eyes with her entire world shining through them held my attention every time I’d look at her! It was a real treat to get to know such a fun girl, a dancer for many years.

I have to say though that what I admired about Bailey the most is that she talked her parents into joining us at the end to have me do a little family portrait session as well. And I’m so glad they got to be part of making the memories of their daughter’s senior year!

Grace of a ballerina…

High school senior Caranina with beauty and grace that took my breath away throughout the portrait session. She was nervous at the beginning, but then she forgot about the jitters and just had fun. It was incredibly easy to capture her persona, adorable as a little girl, but at the same time feminine as a young woman. Smiley and bubbly, a joy to be around. I enjoyed watching her through my lens as we talked about things. I saw the 17 year old high school girl who loves to be with her friends, loves to be happy and has ambitious plans for college next year. Then at the end of the session when she changed into her ballet attire and laced on her pink shoes, a real ballerina appeared in front of me with focus and composure of her movements. It was beyond exciting to combine her wonderful presence with the equally wonderful grounds of Tallac Historic Site.

Karina’s Senior Portraits

Karina, a high school senior traveled all the way to Lake Tahoe from Battle Mountain, NV to have her portraits done. We’re talking 400 plus miles.

So I went for the most variety I could get out of one little spot on the lake at Kiva beach. She had lots of ideas for poses and I enjoyed seeing that she knew exactly what she wanted. I definitely noticed some practice behind how she wanted to look! I always encourage that! :)

Family Fun!

This was another fun shoot on the North Shore of the lake with plenty of energy flying about among adults and children equally.

The family portrait attire trend nowadays seems to be denim and white, which I love to see for the simplicity of it. It allows the moment an expressions to shine through…
